While Microplastics may be tiny, they are a HUGE threat to our marine ecosystems. Millions of marine animals are estimated to die every year from plastic entanglement and congestion. This includes microplastics which build up in the digestive system over time, which causes issues such as starvation, blood poisoning and bioaccumulation in larger predators over time, including humans!
Join us at Leighton Beach as we conduct an AUSMAP microplastic survey which will add to a national dataset on microplastics, helping us find and eliminate their source! We will also be conducting a beach clean-up for larger marine debris which will be recorded for Tangoroa Blue.
