The Summit Road Society (SRS) has committed to restoring a dry lowland podocarp forest in Avoca Valley on the Port Hills. This forest ecosystem once naturally existed on this site, but is now nationally rare and threatened. In October 2018, the Society bought the 233ha Tussock Hill farm and renamed it Linda Woods Reserve, and are now working to transform it into a reserve for the public to enjoy.

Over the next three years the SRS will be planting 45,000 trees and plants and in time intend to plant another 40,000. The reserve will include a range of walking tracks so that the community can enjoy and appreciate the stream and surrounding bush.

Location: Avoca Valley Rd, Heathcote Valley. Meet at the end of Avoca Valley Road.

Come and join our residential volunteers at this project. We'll be there from 9:30am-2:30 or 3pm but you're welcome to come for as much or as little time as you'd like.

Bring: Your own gardening gloves, sturdy boots or shoes, a water bottle and sunhat. As part of our health and safety requirements, CVNZ requires volunteers to wear long sleeves and trousers as protection from the sun and vegetation.

We'd love to see you there, so please register below. Contact Donna (dlusby@cvnz.org.nz) 021 457 568 for more information.

COVID-19: We will be following the advice from government and local council on all Covid-19 restrictions.
