Join us on our adventure to Atiu Creek Regional Park, a spectacular 450 hectare park overlooking the northern Kaipara Harbour. Surrounded by beautiful native forest, wetlands, bush, streams and heritage sites, it’s a true chance to get away from it all and experience nature at its best.

The Park is steeped in history and is host to 17 historic locations; including the extensive ridge pa (Maori fort) which was considered a strategic and vantage location for local tangata whenua (the Maori tribe) when engaging in warfare with invading enemies. There is also an abandoned 19th century oyster farm and numerous other early-settler European locations to explore.

Three nationally threatened bird species; the NZ dabchick, brown teal, and the North Island brown kiwi live at the park and the area also has intact areas of coastal forest which are now rare nationally.

Conservation tasks are likely to include weeding and mulching around native trees, removing invasive weeds that are threatening the regeneration of the native forest and fence removal and fence repairs. The team will be staying in a cottage located on the Park.
