The Alfred Cove Nature Reserve, situated on the Swan River, is classified as an A-Class Reserve and provides important sanctuary for migratory and endemic bird species including the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo. These beautiful birds are classified as endangered and their remaining population is under threat due to the continual loss of foraging, roosting and nesting habitat. Pockets of remnant vegetation vital to Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo’s still remain at Alfred Cove, however it is being encroached by increasing urban development and has been degraded in many areas due to recreational activities and historical use of the area as a waste depository.
Aon volunteers will be working along-side Conservation Volunteers and the Swan Estuary Reserve Action Group, undertaking weed removal to increase the habitat of the area.
