Atiu Creek Regional Park
Tapora, Jul 10th and 5 other dates
This year Conservation Volunteers has made a commitment to plant another 10,000 trees at Ätiu Creek Regional Park to help restore this park back to native bush and achieve our aims of turning this area into a predator free peninsula. We have plenty of Community Planting Days coming up that we would love for you to join!
This beautiful and little visited park has extensive harbour frontage with large tracts of native forest supporting a range of flora and fauna which provides habitat for the nationally threatened New Zealand dabchick and brown teal. This is a stunning coastal area that is now under intensive regeneration. We would love for you to come out and escape from the city for the day to help restore this beautiful site by planting hundreds of native trees and shrubs along the gully to filter contaminants before they reach the waterway and provide important shade and habitat for native fauna. We can provide transportation on site from our office in Eden Terrace for a limited number of volunteers, please get in touch to learn more and book your spot. The activities will run from 10am to 12pm followed by a BBQ for all our volunteers!! Join our community planting day and bring the family for a fun day!
The Brookby Project - Papakura Stream
Brookby, Jul 16th and 1 other date
The Papakura catchment has seen a lot of change over the years with land clearance and loss of stream bank habitat. This project area is part of a large catchment and it will take a lot of community effort working together to restore the streams that flow to the Manukau Harbour.
This is the start of a big, exciting, potential series of projects that will enhance the health of the catchment. The plants will help to stabilise banks, prevent erosion, reduce sediment entering the water as well as providing habitat for birds, lizards and insects.
This is within the Forest and Bird’s South East Wild Link project area and these native plants and trees will provide potential important habitat for Kaka, Bellbirds, Kereru and Tui as well as New Zealand’s only native mammal, the long tailed bat.
We are restoring a section of the Papakura Stream with native plants and trees. We will be working with the local community and will also have groups of volunteers helping with the site preparation, planting and maintenance of the site. The plants will be eco sourced and provided by Te Whangai Trust.
We need your help, join us for a fun day!!
