In 2015 Parks Victoria & Conservation Volunteers constructed and installed over 40 nest boxes in reserves around the Grampians region to support populations of the endangered native species Brush-tailed Phascogales and Squirrel Gliders. Ongoing monitoring after the installation of artificial nest boxes provides valuable information regarding the initial success and further management objectives of habitat replacement efforts. These monitoring efforts will also provide valuable information regarding occupancy rates of non-target introduced species such as the Indian Myna and the European Honey Bee and measures for further control.
Come join in the fun, using an arthroscopic camera we will be checking nest boxes to see what wonderful furry creatures might be living inside, noting down data and taking photographs of what is living inside. Volunteers may even get the opportunity to see some endangered critters!
