Come and join the team surveying the vulnerable species of water mice and completing a rubbish clean up at the Port of Brisbane!
The water mouse is a small ground-dwelling, nocturnal rodent that grows to approximately 10cm in length. Their habitat exists of constructed nesting mounds and natural or artificial hollows located close to or above the high tide mark, and are used for shelter during the day and between tidal cycles. Little is known of the reproductive biology of this species, although it is thought to breed throughout the year.
Due to the increase of the human population building structures around coastal areas, the habitat of the Water Mice has drastically declined, along with the species population itself. So come and help us identify the number of Water Mice living in the Port of Brisbane and clean up what is left of their habitat!
