Conservation Volunteers Australia is back again to the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, this time to assist with the removal of Mosquito ferns (Azolla) from the ornamental lake.
The removal of Mosquito ferns is important to prevent it dominating the lake system and causing ecological problems such as deoxygenation of the water column and shading of water plants - potentially causing an ecosystem collapse.
The Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne is a picturesque haven for recreation and an important resource for education, conservation, science and horticulture. Extending over 38 hectares, the gardens house an amazingly diverse collection of over 10,000 species of plants from around the world, including rare and threatened species. The Gardens also provide a natural sanctuary for native wildlife such as the black swans, eels, bell birds, cockatoos and kookaburras.
Be part of our team and help improve the water quality and ensure we maintain aquatic biodiversity and bird habitat clean and healthy!
We will provide transport from our Melbourne office (162 Adderley St West Melbourne) each day, departing at 8am and returning around 4pm. Or if you live local you can meet on-site by prior arrangement.
