– Far North Queensland is a mecca for biodiversity. Biodiversity relies on healthy corridors of habitat, linking our mountains to our coast via our waterways and all the areas in-between.
Revegetation work within this region is vital for creating and maintaining these corridors, and the work cannot be done successfully without the help of our dedicated volunteers! So please come along with us and help link our wildlife and plant life within the region by planting native species in places that need it.
We will be working with local tree planting group Kuranda Envirocare helping to restore links between areas of natural significance around the region, focusing on the area of Myola, connecting areas within the Wet Tropics along the mighty Barron River. The region is well known for being home to endangered species such as the Cassowary and the Kuranda Tree Frog, which is endemic to the region (found nowhere else in the world!)
Holes are usually pre-dug ready to accept seedlings, so all you have to do is the simple task of placing these trees into the ground with a little fertilizer. Admire the view along the banks of the Barron, take some time for some bird watching, and get to know a few of the locals that regularly take part in environmental work in the Kuranda region. Morning Tea provided at the nursery after the activity as a thanks for your hard work! If desired, have a browse around the Kuranda Envirocare nursery and purchase a few plants for your home garden for only $2.
It is important that you come with all the right PPE for this activity – long pants and shirt, wide brimmed hat, gloves and enclosed, hardy shoes are requirements.
Meet at our office at 38 Hayward St, Manunda 7:30 sharp for a free trip up the range to the Kuranda Envirocare nursery where we will begin our activity.
