A new red gum artwork series has been designed and installed at Redgum Island, Fyansford to enhance visitor experience and recognition of the aboriginal and environmental significance of the area.
Redgum Island is located at the junction of the Moorabool and Barwon Rivers and is completely separated from surrounding land during flood periods. Redgum Island is a significant place for local aboriginal people, as well as a natural haven for local wildlife with red gum trees growing on the banks of both rivers. The new artwork will reflect this, depicting the life of a red gum tree from treetop to the roots in the water.
We are assisting with maintenance activities on the area prior to the launch of the new artwork. Activities will involve cleaning up planting areas (fixing or removing guards, removing dead plants, some hand weeding) and potential minor landscaping, rubbish clean up and woody weed removal in the riverside woodland environments.
We will provide transport from South Geelong each day, departing at 8.00am and returning around 4pm. Or if you live local you can meet on-site by prior arrangement.
