CONSERVATION IMPACT:
On this Naturewise Eco Escape you’ll explore a unique wildlife sanctuary on the doorstep of Melbourne city and contribute to the Eastern Barred Bandicoot conservation initiative. Sadly, the Eastern Barred Bandicoot is now considered extinct in Victoria’s wild due to predation and loss of habitat. Conservation Volunteers Australia, Zoos Victoria and Parks Victoria have joined forces to save the critically endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoot from extinction.  Four hundred hectares of Red-gum Grassy Woodlands  have  been fenced off as a Nature Reserve to protect the Bandicoots. Today the population has grown from 40 animals to over 200.  This tour supports the important ongoing work  being undertake to reinstate and monitor population numbers of the Eastern Barred Bandicoots at Woodlands Reserve.

TRAVEL:
Drive time from Melbourne to Woodlands Historic Park is 30 - 40 minutes in a 2WD commuter bus with forward facing seats and air conditioning.

ITINERARY: 
Transfer from Melbourne city to Woodland Wildlife Reserve. Our evening starts with an introduction to the parks history and wildlife including the Eastern Barred Bandicoot recovery project from our local ranger. Afterwards we explore the bush armed with spotlights in search of nocturnal wildlife – keep an eye out for kangaroos, possums, owls and Bandicoots. Along our guided nocturnal walk we’ll also stop to check motion sensor cameras for wildlife activity. Finish the evening with a hot drink and snacks at Gellibrand Hill looking over the city lights.
