TOUR RATING:
Medium. Wildlife monitoring activities involve walking in and around low lying grassland areas for around four hours in warm climatic conditions.
TOUR LOCATION:
Woodlands Historic Parks is located 25km north of Melbourne CBD.
CONSERVATION IMPACT:
Did you know it only takes 12.5 days for a bandicoot to be born?
Sadly, the Eastern Barred Bandicoot is now considered extinct in Victoria’s wild due to predation and loss of habitat. You will be helping Parks Victoria and Conservation Volunteers save the species from extinction through a number of hands-on conservation activities at Woodlands Historic Park.
This research plays a vital role in helping us reinstate and monitor population numbers of the Eastern Barred Bandicoots at Woodlands Historic Park. Our work as volunteers will principally involve assisting with animal trapping, recording data including weight, gender, and condition of the captured animals, as well as their release back into the wild. Information collected will be critical in informing parks managers about the status of the species at Woodlands and helping them make informed management decisions about future direction and conservation of the EBBs at Woodlands.

Drive time from Melbourne to Woodlands Historic Park is 30 minutes in a 2WD commuter bus with forward facing seats and air conditioning.
