The South East Wetland Carers Network is a project set up in partnership with South East Local Land Services, WetlandCare Australia and Conservation Volunteers Australia. Our work will focus on the protection and restoration of wetland environments throughout the Illawarra.
James Holt Reserve is a large area of wetland that sits within 2 km of the opening to the ocean. Comprising of both mangrove forest and swamp oak floodplain forest, this area is very important in keeping the river healthy and maintaining water quality. Just 25 minutes South of Wollongong it is a short trip to help tackle some invasive plants, it is also important to keep your eyes peeled for local fauna to help us maintain quality records of the diversity present in this wetland.
This site is just a stones throw from the iconic Killalea State Park across the river. A location of significance due to its natural and cultural assets, contributing to region wide control help protect these areas from further degradation.
