Limeburners Lagoon is a tide-dominated estuary that runs off Hovells Creek and is a regionally significant conservation reserve with saltmarsh and Ramsar classified wetlands. The area is incredibly popular for birdwatching, recreational fishing and hiking.
Limeburners Lagoon is home to many endangered species. The site is part of theWerribee and Avalon Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance for wetland and waterbirds as well as for orange-bellied parrots.
The volunteer team will be removing a section of fence within the saltmarsh and also an older barbwire fence for safety issues. The fence removal will allow locals and visitors to enjoy the area safely, as well as provide a nicer habitat for the wildlife.
We will provide transport from South Geelong each day, departing at 8.15am and returning around 4pm. Or if you live local you can meet on-site by prior arrangement.
