Located in the hills to south-east of Perth, Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Rehabilitation Centre is 40 acres of bushland and infrastructure that is dedicated to the preservation of the black cockatoo and also to other native endangered Australian fauna. The devoted staff at Kaarakin focus on the rescue, rehabilitation and if possible, the release of the threatened Forest Red-tail, and the endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoos. They also have a wide variety of other native wildlife including kangaroos, emus, dingos, black swans, galahs and the endangered Gouldian Finch.
Conservation Volunteers and the Black Cockatoo Preservation Society are working together to restore crucial wildlife habitat for endangered Carnaby’s Cockatoos at "The Orchard", a site across the road from Kaarakin.
