CVA and Commbank Orange are excited to be offering a fun, informative and practical School program around Orange NSW. The program is called River Rescue and is designed to enhance students’ awareness of issues facing our waterways in the Central West and why it’s important that we protect them.
Teaching young Australians the value of active citizenship and participation in community environmental events/projects is a high priority for CVA in the Central West and any chance we get to involve young people is very welcome.
As part of this program, students will learn about:
- The history and indigenous significance of local waterways
- Native vegetation and wildlife Rivers as corridors (riparian ribbons)
- Threats to our waterways (salinity, erosion, invasive species)
- Water quality and its importance
- Remedial action and prevention
As a volunteer on this project you would support our staff in coordinating games with the kids and assist with a tree planting session and Flora and fauna walk-and-talk session at a nearby waterway.
