The Top End region around Darwin is lucky enough to have a large number of lagoons where bird life is present. However, with ever expanding urbanisation it is hard to know what the long term effects will be on our beautiful bird species that call these lagoons their home.

On this bird survey project, we will be surveying and monitoring bird populations across targeted sites, including sites such as McMinns Lagoon, Fogg Dam, Knuckey Lagoon and Marlow Lagoon. These reserves provide important resting sites and breeding grounds for resident and migrating bird species, amongst various other fauna species.

By surveying these bird species we will be collecting important baseline data on the changes in bird numbers (positive or negative) over the years. We hope that this data will be able to be use to build cases for planning and development cases in the Top End.

This project is a great relaxing project for all ages, we will have set monitoring sites a short walking distance from the vehicle, where we will base ourselves for the project and record the presence of particular bird species.
