The concept of ‘The Tonne in Ten Project’ is simple; we will take our team to beaches on Bruny Island over the course of ten days and they will collect and remove a tonne of marine debris. The ‘Tonne in Ten’ program will focus on keeping Bruny Islands beaches clean from debris and addressing the growing marine debris problem caused by increasing tourism, marine farms and aquaculture and general ocean debris on exposed Bruny Island coastlines and within the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.
The program will work with local community volunteers to reduce, remove, monitor and document the coastal debris in the Bruny Island region. All data collected will be sent to both CSIRO and Tangaroa Blue for their internal databases and analysis.
