Located near Blanchetown, about an hour and a half drive north-east of Adelaide, Brookfield Conservation Park is home to the locally threatened Southern Hairy-nosed wombat, threatened Malleefowl and the not so common, Common Dunnart.
Managed by CVA, the park offers visitors the chance to see an array of plant and bird life plus the opportunity to maybe catch a glimpse of the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat, as well as kangaroos and emus. You will discover more about the wombats including their preferred habitats, diet, breeding and potential threats to the population.
With a long history dating back to early settlers, there are many stories to tell about life in this unique area. Participants will take a tour of the Woodcutters Hut and Charcoal pits, the turn of the century Homestead and the currently operational Scientific Research Camp.
You will learn about the Vision for Brookfield Conservation Park including aims, partnerships, scientific research, biodiversity management, sustainability, community involvement and Citizen Science.
You will also visit the environmentally-friendly EcoTents and learn about exciting Naturewise ecotourism-volunteering opportunities.
There is lots of native wildlife to see and hear as you travel through the park. Look out for possums, echidnas, a variety of lizards and birdlife including and birds such as Malleefowl, Blue Fairy Wrens, Stone Curlews, Ground Cuckoo Shrikes and Australian Owlet Nightjars.
